Following the release of 2025’s Brain Like Computer EP and an incredible cover of mui zyu’s “everything to die for” for Father/Daughter Records’ 15th anniversary, June returns with new single, “Pet.” Produced by Anna Laverty (Folk Bitch Trio, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever), “Pet” trades some of June’s earlier softness for a wirier, more tensile edge without abandoning the indie-folk instincts that made her work feel so intimate in the first place. It folds into a slightly unspooled sound, gritty guitar crackle while the rhythm section keeps everything in a kind of nervous motion.

“Pet is about a relationship dynamic that consists of one person following the other around, like a pet,” explains June. “It’s a one sided conversation from the perspective of the other person in the relationship that feels as if they have to coddle and protect the ‘pet’ one.”

✩ Written by Mia June
✩ Produced, Engineered & Mixed by Anna Laverty
✩ Mastered by Dan O'Connor
