"Pet" is the latest from Melbourne, AU's Mia June

Melbourne, Australia’s Mia June has been keeping herself busy. Following the release of 2025’s Brain Like Computer EP and an incredible cover of mui zyu’s “everything to die for” for Father/Daughter Records’ 15th anniversary, June returns with new single, “Pet.” Produced by Anna Laverty (Folk Bitch Trio, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever), “Pet” trades some of June’s earlier softness for a wirier, more tensile edge without abandoning the indie-folk instincts that made her work feel so intimate in the first place. It folds into a slightly unspooled sound, gritty guitar crackle while the rhythm section keeps everything in a kind of nervous motion.

“Pet is about a relationship dynamic that consists of one person following the other around, like a pet,” explains June. “It’s a one sided conversation from the perspective of the other person in the relationship that feels as if they have to coddle and protect the ‘pet’ one.”

Mia June celebrates the new single with a month-long residency at Nighthawks in Collingwood, VIC.
