In 2010, Father/Daughter Records was born out of a simple idea that independent music thrives when artists are given space to take risks, experiment, and build community. To mark its 15th anniversary, the label invited current artists and longtime alumni to draw from the catalog and recast the songs in their own light. F/D Fifteen is a project that doubles as a love letter to the label’s past and future.
For the fourth installment, Portland’s Pure Bathing Culture converts The Softies’ 2024 track “I Said What I Said” into a breezy, samba-tinged sway. The song gains new warmth and movement with Dan Hindman's shimmery guitars and Sarah Versprille's airy vocals cloaking the lyrics in a heartfelt haze, transforming it into something distinctly their own. The result is less a cover than a conversation, a familiar song reimagined.
"I Said What I Said" follows mui zyu's cover of Shamir, Anna McClellan's retake of Esther Rose, and Anjimile's rendition of Pickle Darling. The next F/D Fifteen song arrives November 20th.
